The few days before entering treatment can be hectic for family and friends. There’s a lot of ground to cover, from researching nearby treatment options to figuring out how the rehab costs will be paid.
To help make things easier for Long Island residents, we offer free, quick, and confidential insurance verification as well as a seamless admissions process.
The Admissions Process at a Glance
There are a number of ways to get the admissions process started.
Many voluntarily admit themselves into our care, usually after calling in first to make sure there’s a spot. In other cases, it’s the family arranging everything for a loved one. And, of course, some clients are referred to the facility by other healthcare professionals and counselors.
Regardless of how a client gets to our doors, the admission process that follows has to cover a few critical angles.
The individual’s health is the most pressing one. Staff members at the facility evaluate the person’s health on the physical and mental levels, looking into the substance use history. A second assessment may be needed later to develop a tailored treatment plan.
Specialists on the team will also work on the insurance verification (which we will cover in depth in a minute!)
A quick orientation may be included in the admissions process. Family members are told about the communication protocols and visitation times, while the client gets familiarized with the facility.
Verifying Your Insurance With Long Island Interventions
Most marketplace plans cover substance use disorder treatment, but the details vary.
Because we believe recovery services should be accessible, we’re always willing to help people with their verification of benefits.
Here’s a glance into our insurance verification process:
Quick Checks
At Long Island Interventions, we understand that not everyone has the luxury of waiting. Once the decision to seek help has been made, acting quickly is key. The more time passes, the more room you leave for doubt and triggers.
That’s why we streamline our admissions and insurance verification process. Our admissions team is available 24/7 and ready to help any way they can.
Professional Guidance
Ultimately, it’s up to the individual to choose the payment options they see fit.
The admission specialist, however, helps the client see the complete picture so that they can make an informed decision.
To do that, they get in touch with your insurance provider to confirm your policy is active. Once they review your plan, they can explain what’s covered, what’s not, and what requires special pre-authorization.
This would be a good time to ask about your deductibles, copays, coinsurance, and out-of-pocket maximums.
Protected Privacy
We do collect your private health information. After all, we need it to check your coverage level and prepare the claims.
However, we still value your privacy and understand the need for confidentiality with such a stigmatized disease like addiction. Rest assured that our privacy policy is HIPAA-compliant.
No-Commitment Verification
Our insurance coverage verification doesn’t come with any caveats. There’s no obligation on the policyholder or their family to use our substance abuse treatment and intervention services.
Referrals
Long Island Interventions provides a wide range of recovery services. We’re ready to arrange for your loved one to enter treatment at different levels of care.
The available options include medical detox, residential programs, intensive outpatient programs (IOP), partial hospitalization programs (PHP), dual diagnosis programs, and aftercare.
In the rare case that our behavioral health services aren’t a good fit for your needs, we may be able to refer you to a trusted affiliate provider.
Client Reviews
We take great pride in our client care. Professionalism, compassion, and evidence-based approaches drive our commitment to care. Every person who walks into our center is on their way to recovery. And they deserve support and guidance.
Here’s what a client had to say about their experience with one of our staff members:
“He dealt with all the initial communication with the facility admissions paperwork, insurance info, everything. We could never thank him enough.”
Feel free to read more reviews from our former clients and their loved ones.
7 Tips for Minimizing Out-of-Pocket Costs and Streamlining the Admissions Process
Even with your insurance benefits kicking in, the costs can add up quickly. That’s not just because of the copay/coinsurance. There are invisible expenses to worry about too, including childcare and transportation.
Here are seven tips to help you cut the overall cost and create a more streamlined process:
1. Prioritize In-Network Rehab Centers
While it’s true that most plans offer behavioral health benefits, some will restrict your provider choices. Those that don’t outright deny coverage for out-of-network service providers will at least try to encourage you to pick preferred providers.
Let’s look at Preferred Provider Organization (PPO) and Point-of-Service (POS) plans first. If you’re on one of these plans, you actually pay more for out-of-network facilities.
Before you commit to anything, make sure you know your in-network options.
2. Opt for an Individualized, Adaptable Treatment Plan
Naturally, programs that offer a higher level of care cost more, with residential programs at the high end of the spectrum. With outpatient programs, unlike residential treatment, you don’t have to worry about the housing and round-the-clock staffing expenses.
Of course, low-intensity settings with low staff-to-client ratios don’t work for everyone. The care team will recommend the appropriate level of care based on the symptoms, mental health, substance abuse history, and prior setbacks.
The good news is that the chosen level of care isn’t set in stone. As the individual progresses, their need for intense treatment often drops, making it possible to move down the continuum of care.
Discuss the treatment plan’s adaptability with the care team. Let them know you’d like to transition to more affordable settings as soon as possible.
3. Look Into EAP Benefits
If you’re employed, you might have access to the workplace’s employee assistance program (EAP).
Unlike regular insurance, EAPs don’t come with copays or deductibles. The program might not cover rehab itself, but it can help with some of the extra expenses you’ll run into along the way.
For instance, some of the benefits that may be offered by EAPs are:
- Short-term counseling
- Child care referrals
- Wellness services
What about confidentiality, you may ask? Well, in most cases, co-workers and employers don’t know which EAPs you’re accessing and for what reason.
So, ask about your benefits and don’t let them go unused.
To learn more about the EPA, you can ask HR or check the benefits page on the company’s intranet. There could be a dedicated EAP administrator to contact via phone or email, too.
4. Inquire About Financial Aid Options
Many rehab centers and providers acknowledge that cost shouldn’t be a barrier to treatment. As a result, they offer sliding-scale fees to people who need it.
You may be able to settle on a payment plan as well.
5. Get a Packing List Ready
There are some basic items you’ll need for your inpatient rehab stay. Think toiletries, clothing, and maybe a journal. Some may be covered by insurance, but you’ll have to buy the rest with your own money.
Before admission, make sure to inquire about the exact products provided by the center. Ask about the prohibited items, too. This way you don’t buy anything you won’t actually use. Plus, you’ll make the intake process a bit easier.
6. Lean on a Support Network
Support from family and friends can go a long way.
For example, family members can offer to drive their loved one to the facility, saving money on commutes for every outpatient day. They can also handle responsibilities the person may leave behind when they leave for rehab, such as childcare.
7. Consider State-Funded Supportive Housing
The Office of Addiction Services and Supports (OASAS) funds supportive housing programs to assist homeless or at-risk New Yorkers.
Consider contacting the local Department of Social Services to see if you can find stable housing for a loved one. The supportive environment can help them recover as they receive outpatient care.
These housing programs usually offer on-site case management services and vocational counseling. So, participants can actually work on improving their financial situation over time.
Your loved one will still have control over their finances. That said, they may have to contribute a share of their monthly income (or the social service shelter allowance) to the program.
Get Help Admitting a Loved One
Everyone deserves access to quality care. It may take time and effort to get them to seek the help they need, but the life-changing treatment they’ll receive is well worth it.
Being able to show them a clear path forward helps, too. This includes presenting them with affordable treatment options and letting them know how you’ll support them on their journey towards sobriety.
If you need help arranging for someone to attend treatment, don’t hesitate to contact our team.
We can help you better understand the chronic disease of addiction, stage an intervention, verify the insurance benefits, and prepare for admissions.
